Chef architect of the PS5 reveals which SSD he finds best

Soon you can extend the storage space of your PlayStation 5 with SSD hard disks. However, this only works with special models. The chief architect of the console now reveals which SSD he will use and we show you what makes you do.

Who speaks there? Mark Cerny is the boss architect, which has designed the hardware of the PlayStation 5. Previously, he already worked on the PS4 and the PS Vita. So he has been working for Sony for a while.

In a Tweet, he talked about the upcoming memory extensions for the PlayStation 5, which many players have been waiting for months, and mentioned which SSD he will be personally using (via Twitter.com).

What is this for an SSD? The WD_BLACK SN850 is a SSD of Western Digital, which comes in three different sizes: 500 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB. The technical data are as follows:

• Interface: PCIE GEN4 X4
• Connection: M.2
• Dimensions: 80 mm x 23.4 mm x 8.8 mm
• Read speed: 7,000 MB / s
• Writing speed: 4,100 MB / s

For each size there are models with and without heat sink. Depending on how strongly your SSD is loaded, cooling is recommended, especially as it costs only a small surcharge, but can increase life dramatically. Sony itself also recommends such a "heatsink."

The best memory for the PS5

There are some Sony specifications that the SSDs have to fulfill to be compatible with the PS5.
