Barracuda X test: an affordable but imperfect multiplatform helmet

A gaming helmet is good, but a gaming helmet that adapts everywhere is even better. Thus Razer's ambition is to offer a multiplatform audio device that can be used everywhere, without worrying about whether or not it is compatible. The Barracuda X is used on PC, Nintendo Switch, Smartphones and Lounge Consoles (Xbox and PlayStation). The latter is therefore addressed to everyone as long as the ambition continues at the level of the pricing which does not exceed the fateful bar of the 100 euros. Beyond that, it starts to be a brake on the purchase for a good number of users. The side helmet of the people is also found in its design.

Indeed, the Barracuda X is what could be described as a very classic helmet, without frills in terms of materials and lines. We are on a product that does not distinguish itself a lot of the mass unlike most RAZER products that have a very specific key. Almost regrets the lack of risk taking. Totally nomady, you will spend at least unnoticed on the street or public transport. If once on the head the helmet is very quickly forgotten by its lightness, it is a little less the case at the ears. The Barracuda X tends to tighten a little at this level and if you have big ears we advise you to direct you to another model. Without being unbearable, the experience is not very pleasant, in particular for the use of a low-end foam at the holding pad.

The advantage on the other hand is that this type of fabric / coating does not take too hot and it is a real more for the summer (or even winter if we are brought to wear the helmet long on the head). We lose on one side but we gain on the other, as always.

These comfort gaps are forgotten thanks to the good general audio quality. It's a purely gaming purely oriented helmet. And the demanding music lovers will not necessarily find their account. For the game, it is very appreciable with very present bass, as well as treble that can not be forgotten. We have come out our good old Hunt Showdown for the occasion and the device fills his job with perfection. It was also able to use it during our HumanKind test (and its very high audio quality), it was also at the height of expectations. The rendering is simply finesse when one attacks music, a fortiori to classical music that requires a certain nobility in terms of performance.

The microphone of the Barracuda X offers a very satisfactory experience with a clear voice and good overall return. In addition, the attenuation of parasitic noises (such as a veth that blows at full speed by hot a summer evening) works perfectly.

Note also and it is important to specify it, whether it is at the level of listening or microphone, the Wireless headset side is not a brake and does not have alter the different audio performance. A very good point because it is not necessarily the case with wireless in all other manufacturers.

The helmet works everywhere thanks to its very good connectivity is wired via its Jack cable, or wireless thanks to its USB-C dongle. Razer even integrated a USB-A adapter to USB-C to connect the said dongle. Hat the artist. Finally, autonomy is about 20 hours in wireless mode.

A Affordable Multi-Platform Headset

Barracuda X is an affordable helmet that has good qualities for the game but however remains quite imperfect in many ways. The port is not the most enjoyable for certain morphologies and the sound rendering is not necessarily at the height outside the video game. That being said, it remains a good pickaxe if you want a robust and multi-terraine functional helmet.
